The west end of the Hoosac Tunnel lies in the city of North Adams, MA, nicknamed “Tunnel City”, because of the four and three quarter miles long passageway that connected the northern Berkshires to the hub of Boston in 1875. The creation of the Hoosac Tunnel opened up a world of industrial opportunity for people in the rural areas of the Berkshires and inspired a culture of powerful work ethic and creating for the future that still exists today.
